Birthday Five on Friday

Happy Friday Lovies!

I am in the best spirits; my Mom is here and my big girl birthday is tomorrow!

ONE~My Mom

Tuesday evening was an especially exciting day because my Mom flew down to Georgia from Michigan to visit! I haven't seen her since Thanksgiving which is way way too long for both our liking. Thankfully I have a job that allows her to come with me since I can't take time off. She's been enjoying playing with the little ones with me. Last night we went to yoga class together and had a great fun workout.

TWO~ High School Graduation to 25th Birthday

THREE~ The Big 25!

I honestly can't believe I'm turning 25 tomorrow. The time has gone so fast. I don't feel this old. 25 to me seems like the age you become an adult not 21. You know how every year on your birthday people always ask you if you feel older and the honest answer is usually "no" well this year the answer is yes. I'm a quarter century. I use to be such a planner but I am trying not to be so much anymore. Life doesn't go according to plan. In my unrealistic plan I should have accomplished so much more and different things than I already have and I should be married with kids and a job that will get me to early retirement. That is not my current reality and I couldn't be happier. I may not be married with kids but I have the love of an amazing man and wonderful, loving and supportive family and friends. I also love my job, while it is not a profession I will always have I'm currently perfectly happy with it. The last few months leading up to my birthday I've been pouting and sad that I'm turning 25, but now that the day has almost arrived I'm happy and excited to celebrate the day with my Mom and Gavin. :)

FOUR~ Elegant and oh so Beautiful

My Mom gave me the biggest surprise birthday present! (Like mother like daughter... We both get so excited about presents that we make people open them early lol)

My first set of real pearls!!! They are beautiful and I am in love with them and so thankful!

FIVE~ Plans

My birthday weekend plans consist of going to my favorite pizza place for dinner tonight with my Mom, Gavin and our friends then out to drinks. Saturday my Mom, Gavin and I are heading up to Atlanta to go to the Coke Factory and the Aquarium then off to do some shopping on Sunday! Can't wait for the fun to begin after work today. Had to reuse the bow my Mom gave me on my present

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Thanks to Darci, April, Christina and Natasha for the wonderful Five on Friday link up!

Getting fit one day at a time

With spring right around the corner that also means bathing suit season is quickly approaching. I sure don't want to feel like this...

I just started a new yoga class that I am in love with! Since my Mom is in town I am dragging her with me tonight. Always more fun to have a workout buddy.

Smoothies/Juices- The first step

A few weeks ago I wrote about how the Nutri Bullet and how I became instantly obsessed.  I honestly believe the first step to getting healthy and in shape is your diet. I have been drinking juices 1-2 times a day for the past few weeks and I feel a huge improvement in my health. I have more energy, I'm not as sore after a hard workout, and most importantly for me my knees are not hurting. (I have had 4 knee surgeries) I recently came across a post that claims these following juices are belly flattening.... In all real ness who knows if that's true or total BS but I figure they're worth a try. The low fat ice cream is what throws me off lol

My go-to juice contains:

-Kale
-Spinach Leaves
-Fat free light and fit vanilla yogurt
- Apple sauce-no sugar added
- 6 baby carrots
-1 long piece of celery
-As much strawberries, pineapples and mango I can fit
-Water

I find it delicious :) You are more than welcomed to share any good juicing recipes you have!

Tastyyyy TV Tuesday

So I don't know if you heard but three great shows come back this week!! I can't be the only TV junkie jumping with joy. What are your guilty pleasure TV shows??
#1.
It really is the best singing show out there! Not to mention all the judges are hilarious. Gavin and I always pick a team from the start and the rivalry gets more intense as the season goes on! I was Team Adam last season and we completely destroyed Gavin's Team Ceelo! Gavin usually wins thing so it was fun to rub it in his face for awhile!! The season just kicked off last night. Stay tuned to find out who my team is this season!

#2.

I have been a long time fan, even through the weird seasons. Grey's will go down in my TV history as one of my all time favorite shows. (12 brand new episodes in a row starting this Thursday incase you didn't know!!)

#3.

Please tell me you have watched Scandal and are as completely addicted to it as I am?! It is quite intense and super juicy and it's all new this Thursday as well. I am literally jumping with joy at all my shows coming back the same week!

As I was scrolling my fb timeline I came across an awesome recipe. It can totally be ate as a meal, snack or side dish. I've been waiting to make it till my mom gets here tonight because I know she'll love it too. But it looks to good to wait another week to share it with you.

Zesty Lime Shrimp and Avocado Salad

  • 1 lb jumbo cooked shrimp, peeled and deveined, chopped*
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • 1 hass avocado, diced
  • 1 jalapeno, seeds removed, diced fine
  • 1/4 cup chopped red onion
  • 2 limes, juice of
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp chopped cilantro
  • salt and fresh pepper to taste

In a small bowl combine red onion, lime juice, olive oil, pinch of salt and pepper. Let them marinate at least 5 minutes to mellow the flavor of the onion.

In a large bowl combine chopped shrimp, avocado, tomato, jalapeño. Combine all the ingredients together, add cilantro and gently toss.Adjust salt and pepper to taste.

Let me know if you try it! Have a great Tuesday!

Monday Funday

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, Gavin and I sure did. We got together with our 'friend couple' for some amazingly delicious pizza and then drinks the next night. It's fun to have another couple to hangout with.

Yesterday I got the itch to get organized. I really hate how our bathroom is setup, but since we rent there isn't much I can do about it. I can however find ways to eliminate the clutter and disorganization, which became my main goal! If you're looking to get organized I highly recommend a trip to your local Dollar Tree, not Family Dollar... As nothing actually seems to be a dollar there. There really isn't a better feeling that having things clean and organized!

I even reorganized my shoes, as I don't have room for a shoe rack

So am I the only who didn't know that you have to wash your washing machine??
I probably am. Our clothes weren't smelling fresh so I got on Google and started trying to figure out what was wrong and came across lots of remedies for cleaning the washing machine.
My choosen process:
1. Fill washer with hot water and pour in 1 quart of Bleach (I choose a linen bleach)
2. Let washer run a normal cycle all the way through with the bleach water
3. As soon as the cycle ends refill washer with hot water and pour in 1 quart of Distilled white vinegar
4. Let washer run a normal cycle all the way through with vinegar water
5. Wipe down lid, dispensers, and outside with vinegar for a sparkly white finish

IPSY
Well it looks like my complaining on Five on Friday worked! My glam bag finally arrived Saturday!! And it was full of amazing goodies!

I know I'm a total nerd that all the cleaning and organizing was a fun day for me lol Hope you're having an awesome Monday!

Five on Friday... February Blues

Friday, I am so glad we meet again! It has been a busy and tiring week with the parents of the kids I nanny out of town, I'm a little more worn out than normal. Changes topics to not make myself realize how tired I actually am... Can you all believe there is only a week left in February?? This month has gone crazy fast. As I write this post I find myself with a little bit of the 'February blues'.

To start off this rainy Friday here is a flashback picture from when I was traveling in Europe. This picture is from Tallinn Estonia

ONE~ My first horrible experience living in the South
While at the recycling center this week I stepped in what appeared to be sand. Within seconds my toes began itching (it's already warm enough here for flip flips) By the end of the night my last two toes were swollen and had big white puss blisters on them. It turns out that sand piles here are actually homes for red ants!! :/ My poor little toes are in so much pain and won't stop stinging/itching/burning. I already hate ants more than anything but I now hate them even more than I thought possible. I'd post a picture but is probably gross you all out and I need to reaping my toenails.

TWO~ The Blues
Last week I either over stretched the outside of my foot or possible sprained the outside of my ankle/foot. I have tried everything to make it stop hurting and not much has helped. I really wanted to get out of my rut and get back on a workout and healthy eating routine and this injury is messing it all up. I soaked my foot with some Epsom salt today so hopefully that will help. I think my lack of exercise is adding to my fatigue and making me feel blue.

THREE~ IPSY
I highly anticipate receiving my Ipsy glam bag each month. For those of you who aren't familiar, Ipsy is a makeup and feminine products distributor. For $10 each month you get a glam bag in the mail with around six products for you to try. As soon as I get the email saying my glam bag is on it's way I track it like crazy. I am currently pouting because my bag was suppose to be here Tuesday but has been sitting in Orlando since Monday for some reason. I'm always so excited with I see that metallic hot pink bag in the mail box but this week I'm all frowns when I get the mail. I would totally understand and be more patient if I lived where the bad weather was but I mean come on it's in the 80's here my package should not be this delayed. Totally a first world problem I know, I should kinda be ashamed at myself. But I love surprises and each month is a bag full of girly surprises!

Sad face for no new packages full of makeup.

FOUR~ Finishing up some crafts
Since I've been skipping the gym I did find some time to finally finish my little craft project for our dining room. Pretty happy with how they turned out

FIVE~ Positive Note
Well I can't end my five on Friday negatively especially when I have a million things to be thankful. Like the fact that my Mom will be here in four days!!! Ahh can't wait to see her! The fact that I sold two engagement baskets this week!! Yay for BrideToBeBaskets! I am thankful that I have a job, family, friends and the love and friendship of an amazing man! I find that motivational quotes and messages really brighten my day, here are a few of my favs that I came across on twitter...

"When everything seems to be going against you, remember that airplanes take off against the wind, not with it."

"Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you don't have; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for."

"Dont waste time grieving over past mistakes. Learn from them and move on."

"When you judge someone before knowing them, you do not define them; you define yourself."

And the last...

"Many of life's failure are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."

Hope you enjoyed my positive note because you are all totally allowed to send me some cheese for all my whining. Hope you have a great Friday! Thanks to Darci, April, Natasha, and Christina for the link up today!

Sushi Lovers Over Here

What an amazing weekend! Although I am super tired this Monday morning, the fun weekend activities were well worth it.

Friday evening was the perfect night in with Gavin. I came home to our apartment lit with candles with champagne  and roses waiting for me on the table. And he loved all of my sweet/corny valentine treats. I think the winner goes to "I cereal-ously love you"

We went into our sushi making experience thinking it was most likely going to be a big disaster. Everyone told us it was really hard, but at least we would have fun.
Ingredients:
-Tuna
-Imitation crab meat
-Avacados
-Cream Cheese
-Seaweed
-Short Grained Rice
-Spicy Mayo

We started by putting rice on the seaweed then pilling in our tuna, crab, avacado and cream cheese.

Next you roll it up slowly and tightly

Then we worked as a team. Gavin kept his hands on each end of the roll and I used a big knife to cut the rolls. We were honestly shocked at how well they turned out and rather impressed with ourselves. Not to mention they were delicious!

Pretty sure making sushi together will turn into our new favorite thing, especially since we are sushi lovers. We plan to make some with my Mom when she visits and then again in the spring when Gavin's parents come visit.

We finished off our lovely evening watching the film Captain Phillips. We were both fans of it. It was quite an anxiety filled movie. Hope you all had a lovely weekend and enjoyed it as much as we did!

Five on Friday Valentine's Style

A little fun fact about me, I love love love holidays even Hallmark holidays. I may also tend to go a little over board when it comes to decorating and gift giving. So this five on Friday is all about Valentine's Day with the exception of my first being dedicated to raising awareness of Menkes Syndrome.

One~ Team Teddy

Together let's raise awareness of Menkes Syndrome. Just this past November, Teddy was diagnosed with Menkes Syndrome, also known as "kinky hair syndrome", a rare genetic disease that affects approximately 1 in 450,000 male babies. It is a terminal disease and there are currently only a handful of documented cases in the entire United States. It receives little to no medical attention or research funding.

Two~ Valentine's Day as a Nanny

I love doing arts and crafts with little kids, they get so excited. I wish I had more time to do crafts with the kids I watch; we were able to find some time to make homemade cards for their parents. Even the baby had fun, he laughed and wiggled his toes when they were full of paint.

Three~ My Valentine {Gavin}
This is the first Valentine's Day Gavin and I get to spend together! Last year we were in different states. I couldn't be more excited! As you can see by the pictures I may have gone a little overboard with decorating and crafty cute presents. But I just couldn't help myself. I feel like a little kid jumping up and down with excitement and full of butterflies to celebrate this day with my love. I am truly one lucky girl to have such an amazing man so I wanted to make him feel extra special!

Four~ Rollin Sushi

I love going out to dinner but I'm not a fan of waiting forever for a reservation. Gavin and I have decided to have a date night in. We are big sushi lovers and are going to attempt to make and roll our own sushi. Cross your fingers for us that it works!! I think we might have a big mess on our hands. Pictures to come on my next post!

Five~ Looking forward

We are busy busy busy per usual, but we have a lot to look forward too. While I'm really not looking forward to turning the big 25 in a few weeks, I am super super excited that my Mom is coming to visit me over my birthday weekend!! I miss her lots and can't wait for her to get here! She officially booked her ticket last night! Tomorrow Gavin and I have a couples wedding shower for an amazing couple we met down here in Georgia. This will be Gavin's first shower of any type. We will finish up the weekend with a double date on Sunday evening with Gavin's friends from England who will be in town! Which means I need to get my butt on Pinterst and find some awesome recipes to impress them!

Hope you all have a Happy Valentine's Day and an awesome weekend. Thanks so much to Darci, Natasha, April and Christina for letting me link up with them again for Five on Friday!

Lucky Rainbow Chex mix... Taste of Tuesday

Yesterday we celebrated the tenth birthday of the little girl I watch everyday. I wanted to do something fun with her after school since she opened all her presents on Saturday at her party.
I came across Lucky Rainbow Chex mix, in other words a child's dream snack. And I won't lie I couldn't stop eating it either!!
It's a great recipe to do with kids because they can actually help! The recipe takes about ten mins and only has four ingredients.

What you need:

-A medium sized box of lucky Charms
- A box of either corn or rice Chex
- Either two bags of vanilla chips, or blocks of vanilla. I couldn't find chips so I bought the blocks and it was super easy
-One small bottle of colored sprinkles

Directions:

- Have the kids separate the marshmallows into one bowl and the regular cereal pieces into another
- You need 2 cups of each
- Measure 6 cups of Chex into another bowl
- Combine Chex and normal cereal pieces in one bowl
- Put 12 oz of vanilla in a microwave safe bowl and heat for 1 minute
-Stir melted vanilla and pour over Chex and cereal combination-stir well
- Add marshmallows and continue storing
-Add sprinkles and stir one last time

Optional:

I decided to make individual portions by using cupcake containers so the kids don't eat too much at a time

They were a total hit! Enjoy!

Spring is in the Air (At least in the South it is)

Such a lovely weekend we had here in South Georgia, with an average temperature around 70. Perfection!

Gavin and I were able to be outside for most of the weekend since we had beautiful weather. The birthday party we went to was wonderful, they had a huge blowup slide and bounce house that all the children loved. We also got to watch the baby that I nanny for smash his cake for his 1st birthday. It was so cute and Gavin had never experience a baby's first birthday so he was quite amused. We finished up our Saturday evening by grilling outside and having a bonfire!
Sunday was just as lovely and we spent part of the afternoon at Cherokee lake taking a stroll all around the lake.

I don't know about you but when I feel spring in the air it makes me want to do a big spring clean. Unfortunately for Gavin that means he had to help lol I don't think he finds it quite as fun as I do. We made it a little more fun by playing music we could sing to and opening all the doors to bring in fresh air. We both went through our clothes and were able to get rid of a huge garbage bag full that we plan to donate! All our vinyl floors got a deep clean and we were finally able to make an area just for my crafts so our apartment doesn't look like crafts have exploded all over it!

While I love love love our little apartment, I can't wait for when we buy a house and I can install permanent organization structures. My dream crafting office will hopefully one day look something like this:
I also can't wait for a bigger closet! Our clothes are spilling out of ours. Hopefully one day I'll have one of these closets:

DIY
Get organized with an old bookcase or they sell small bookcases for around $10 at Target! You can use them in so many ways.
Use it to organize and display your purses:

Or as a shoe rack:

I'm sure most of you have pintetests and dream about closets and being more organized just as I do! While pinning arway one day I came across this great blog with 40 DIY organizing tips for around your home! They are awesome, if you want to check them out you can find them at Two yellow bird

Five on Friday

Happy Friday!! I have never been happier that it is Friday.  I'm hoping with it being the end of the week that it will also be the end of my cold.  Now that we are a week into February I am realizing just how busy this month is going to be.  Lots to get done but even more to look forward too!
I am excited to link up with Christina, Darci, Natasha and April for Five on Friday! Thanks ladies!

One~

Yay for the weekend! This is going to be a busy one! Gavin and I have a double birthday party for the little kids I nanny for.  The baby is turning one and the oldest daughter is turning ten.  On that note does anyone know what a ten year old girl would want??? Man, kids are hard to buy for now a days. Any and all ideas are welcome! We also have to print a couple wedding registries and get to buying presents for all the wedding showers we have coming up.  Not that I mind shopping whatsoever!  And shopping always means Starbucks! (We don't have one in our little town but in Tallahassee where all the shopping takes place there is one on every corner!)  I'm pretty sure I might have also signed myself up for a run and kettle ball workout this weekend... curse my over ambitious self sometimes.

Two~

I have been crafting my little heart out this week; (While watching hours and hours of Friends) it turns out you have lots of free time when you're sick and refuse to cook or workout.  This week I have been mainly focusing on chalkboard paint and wine glasses.  I have sets of large wine glasses with the stems painted and sets of tall wine glasses with heart shaped chalkboards.  They can all be found on my Etsy shop today! If you love them spread the word and link :) Etsy Link

Three~

I received the book A Suitable Boy by: Vikram Seth for Christmas from Gavin's Dad.  It is a story of India, love, life, doing things your own way or the way your mother wants you to.  When I first unwrapped the book my eyes widened at the length but then I thought about how I usually get so sad when I am about to finish a book which won't happen for awhile with this one! I am not even a quarter of the way through yet but I am greatly enjoying it thus far.  I would definitely recommend it...don't let the length scare you away!

Four~

My awesome purchase of the week! I have recently realized that I am obsessed with the color aqua mint or as paint companies like to call it, Sea Breeze.  I also bought three big letters: M, G and C.  For  Gavin's and my initials.  I am hoping to put them near my new sign after I paint them to match! Hoping to finish them this weekend and hang them up.  My question of the day to all of you and to myself is: what do you love? Are you currently doing what makes you happy and what you love? Or are you just doing what makes you the most money or what you're comfortable doing? I challenge you to find what you love and do it!

Five~

Two products I completely swear by that have honestly changed my life.  I know that sounds a bit dramatic but I'm being for real.  I have suffered for as long as I can remember with mild acne.  Depending on what I try my skin alternates between dry and oily.  I tried seeing a dermatologist who proscribed insanely strong and expensive medicine, I tried every major brand of face washes and acne systems and nothing seemed to work.  Well at least not for more than a few weeks. As many people know, every aspect of acne for a lack of a better word...sucks!!!
BUT, I finally found a combination that works and has been working for about five months now! I wanted to share it because it really has changed my life and having clear skin has greatly improved my self confidence and view of myself.

First: I wash my face with Cetaphil bars of soap.  You have to use the bar of soap not the liquid form.  The liquid form is to oily and almost feels like lotion.  It doesn't work for me.  Thankfully stores such as Walmart are starting to see the bars, up until a month ago I have always ordered mine off Amazon. Once you rinse lightly dab your face with a towel till it is dry.

Second: I gently massage H2O+ Face Oasis hydrating treatment into my face.  It is a oil-free marine hydration. A little bit goes a long way when it comes to this product.  I dip the tip of my middle finger into the gel and then dab it all around my face, then i lightly rub it into my skin.  This product is awesome, it is all natural and made of .  I actually received a sample of it with my Ipsy product bag of the month, I loved it so much that I bought a big container of it.  It is unfortunately a little expensive but definitely worth it.

I highly recommend both these products.  I repeat this routine every morning and every night right before bed.  My only reason for posting these two products is to hopefully help someone else who is fighting the obnoxious and unfair fight against dumb acne.  It's definitely worth a try!

Happy Friday friends! Hope you all have a great weekend and remember to find and do what you love!
